Dr. Fauci says U.S. is out of pandemic phase.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention released a nationwide survey conducted from December 2021 through February 2022. The survey looks for specific antibodies in the blood that are only created through testing positive for COVID-19 within the last two years and found that 58% of the U.S. population overall and more than 75% of younger children have been infected since the start of the pandemic.
Chief medical advisor to the president, Dr. Anthony Fauci, said that the United States has moved “out of the pandemic phase” with COVID-19. “We don’t have 900,000 new infections a day and tens and tens and tens of thousands of hospitalizations and thousands of deaths. We are at a low level right now,” said Dr. Fauci.
“So, if you’re saying if we are out of the pandemic phase in this country? We are,” Dr. Fauci added. He did caution that the U.S. was not going to “eradicate” the virus and said that globally the pandemic is “ongoing.”
The CDC also reports that about 83 percent of Americans have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
